Bernese professional boxer Alain Chervet is gearing up for his comeback fight at the Boxing Day event under the guidance of Cuban star trainer Pedro Diaz. Based in Florida, Diaz is considered one of the most renowned boxing coaches worldwide, known for shaping world champions and elite-level fighters.

After a two-year hiatus, Bernese professional boxer Alain Chervet will make his return to the ring on December 26, 2021, as part of the Boxing Day event. To prepare, the 31-year-old enlisted one of the most respected trainers in international boxing: Cuban Pedro Diaz. Diaz will spend approximately five weeks in Bern, coaching Chervet during the event at the Kursaal Arena.
Chervet sees Diaz’s involvement not only as a boost to his own professional career but also as an investment in his future as a trainer. “Pedro Diaz is the best coach in the world. I will learn an incredible amount from him, both as a boxer and as a trainer. Everyone in my gym will benefit from this,” Chervet said.
Diaz’s World-Class Coaching Career
Pedro Diaz began his career in the 1990s as a coach for the Cuban national team. Under his guidance, Cuba won a total of 20 gold, six silver, and three bronze medals across four Olympic Games. After leaving Cuba in 2007, he coached the Dominican Republic national team at the Beijing Olympics before moving into professional boxing.
Since 2011, Diaz has lived with his family in Miami, where he runs his own gym, Mundo Boxing, training numerous world-class athletes, including Miguel Cotto, Guillermo Rigondeaux, and Filip Hrgovic. In addition to coaching professionals, the 58-year-old also advises amateur boxing programs in Ecuador and China to support the sport’s development.
Workshops in Bern
During his stay in Switzerland, Swiss Pro Boxing is organizing workshops with Pedro Diaz for Swiss boxers. These group training sessions will take place at the Boxing Kings gym in Bern-Liebefeld and are open to youth and adults of all skill levels.
