Benoît Huber (11-6, 7 K.o.) caused a surprise on Friday evening at the Odense Idrætshal. The Valaisan defeated local favorite Ditlev Rossing (21-2) over eight rounds unanimously by points (78-74, 78-74, and 77-75).

Rossing began aggressively and sought to press forward, while Huber initially boxed backward, using his size and reach advantage with straight punches. From the third round, this showed effect: Rossing's pressure decreased, Huber increasingly took the initiative, and cleverly avoided the Dane's occasional dangerous advances. In the final rounds, the physically strong Swiss dominated the fight and consistently implemented the previously defined game plan.

Big Jump in the Rankings

The victory is also reflected in the BoxRec rankings. Huber has moved up in the cruiserweight division from No. 293 to No. 172 in the world.

For Huber, this success is an important step in what is planned to be the final chapter of his professional career. His next fight is already scheduled for Boxing Day, December 26, at the Kursaal in Bern. There, Huber hopes to compete over ten rounds for the Swiss cruiserweight championship title.

“Our goal is the Swiss championship. But Hoti, Berisha, Ben Hamira—they’ve all turned it down. Hardly anyone wants to face the tough Huber,” says manager and promoter Leander Strupler, who is now intensifying his search for an attractive opponent for Boxing Day.

A victory in Bern could once again open the door for Huber to a major international fight in 2027.

His dog Pivfta is coming along

A personal detail: Huber’s waistband doesn’t bear his own name, but rather “Pivfta,” the name of his dog. Even during his surprising victory in Denmark, his loyal companion was with him in the ring—at least symbolically.
