"I come not only to participate, but to take over"

«Safe» wants to rise

Seifeddine Letaief, known as «Safe», makes no secret of his ambitions. "I'm not here only to participate, I'm here to take over," says the 24-year-old ahead of his first appearance at Boxing Day. "I want to defeat strong opponents in order to rise."
The announcement fits a boxer who has progressed quickly so far. Letaief only switched to the professional ranks in September 2024 and has seven wins from seven fights two years later, three of them prematurely. Most recently, he stopped France's Anthony Deloffre in the fifth round in June. 

Letaief is not inexperienced despite his short professional career. As an amateur, he fought 47 fights and became the Swiss champion in 2023. He is trained by Gabriel Viltre-Diaz. Letaief is technically well-trained, boxes variably, and seeks the offensive himself. A boxer who wants to hide neither in nor out of the ring.

Costa brings the experience

At 36, Eduardo Costa do Nascimento is twelve years older than Letaief and far more experienced. The São Paulo native’s record includes 18 professional fights, with twelve wins and 121 rounds. He has won the Brazilian championship title five times in his home country.
In June 2025, he faced Cuban Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez in a ten-round bout and lost the fight for the WBA Continental Americas title by decision. Most recently, he lost to the undefeated American Breyon Gorham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s fight. Costa is not a delicate technician, but he is tenacious, physically resilient, and packs a punch.

Eight Rounds to Gauge His Level

Costa is also considered a benchmark because he is well-known in the Swiss boxing scene. In 2024, he faced Angelo Peña—one of the best Swiss professional boxers of this decade—at the Bern City Theater. Costa lost on points but proved to be a tenacious and difficult opponent.

The fight against Costa offers Letaief the chance to climb into the top 100 of the BoxRec rankings for the first time and to prove that his athletic results live up to his big talk. Letaief hopes to earn a long-term contract with Swiss Pro Boxing and, in the medium term, make his mark on the international stage. The single-fight contract is intentionally designed as a mutual trial. “We want to see how well we mesh, both athletically and organizationally,” says promoter Leander Strupler.

Boxing Day: The Big Stage

Letaief and Costa will face off on December 26 in an eight-round superfatherweight bout (up to 58.9 kilograms). It is one of the main events of Boxing Day 2026 at the Kursaal Arena in Bern.
