Bernese professional boxer Angelo Peña showed a different side of himself on the SRF show "Mini Chuchi, dini Chuchi". Instead of fighting in the ring, he battled it out in the kitchen – impressing viewers with his charm and dedication.

This week, Angelo Peña swapped the boxing ring for the kitchen. The undefeated Super Featherweight from Bern appeared on the SRF entertainment show “Mini Chuchi, dini Chuchi”, donning a chef’s apron. For the week’s theme, “Summer Vegetables,” he served his fellow contestants “Arroz con verduras” – fried rice with vegetables and tofu.
Although Peña’s personal favorite dish is boiled bananas, he opted for a vegetarian menu for the show. “I knew from the start that I probably wouldn’t win. I mostly participated for fun – and to get a little publicity,” he told Blick in an interview. He received support from his fiancée Alissha, who helped him practice the dish.
The jury was pleasantly surprised. Even though Peña is a self-proclaimed meat lover, his healthy and thoughtfully plated meal earned praise. Criticism was minor – the rice was slightly grainy, and the soy sauce a bit generous. Peña rated himself 6 to 7 out of 10, while his fellow contestants scored him 7 to 8.
Reflecting on the experience, Peña said, “Working with SRF was a lot of fun. I got to meet amazing people.” Despite his culinary debut, he intends to shine in the ring rather than the kitchen in the future.
