Official Weigh-In in Bern – Title Fight Cancelled

At the official weigh-in at Hotel Bern, all 14 boxers underwent medical examinations and were weighed. Peña’s opponent missed the agreed weight limit by a significant margin, which led to the fight being called off.

The official weigh-in for the seventh edition of «Boxen statt Theater» took place on Thursday evening at Hotel Bern. In the presence of officials from the World Boxing Organization (WBO), the International Boxing Federation (IBF), and the Swiss boxing federation Swiss Boxing, a total of 14 professional boxers underwent medical examinations and were weighed.

Fight cancelled due to Jimenez missing weight
“The disappointment is great, and I question why my team and I go through all this effort in the first place,” said Leander Strupler. Earlier, Salvador Jimenez clearly missed the agreed weight limit at the weigh-in for the WBO and IBF Intercontinental title fight, coming in at 63.0 kilograms, while the limit was set at 58.9 kilograms. Angelo Peña met the requirement at 58.3 kilograms.

Following the weigh-in, the teams of Peña and Jimenez, the promoter, and the involved federations discussed possible scenarios. Jimenez declined a re-weigh. The federations offered the option of proceeding under modified conditions, with the titles being contested exclusively for Peña. After consulting with his coaching team, Peña decided not to accept the fight under these circumstances, citing the health risk of facing a significantly heavier opponent.

Event to proceed as planned
«Boxen statt Theater» will take place as scheduled on Good Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Stadttheater Bern. The bout of crowd favorite Félix Meier will move to the top of the fight card. A total of six professional fights are planned. “Now the focus is on delivering a successful event regardless. We owe that to the fighters and the fans. It will be a great boxing night at the Stadttheater,” Strupler added confidently.

Highly anticipated are the professional debuts of Jason Kongolo and Zarah Fairn. Georgi Tanchev (light heavyweight) and Mehdi Ben Hamira promise plenty of power. The evening kicks off at 20:00 with Lausanne’s Marwan Maslard.

Passanante withdraws due to illness
Gianni Passanante was already forced to withdraw from his scheduled six-round fight due to illness.

The last remaining tickets are available online at www.swissproboxing.ch and, subject to availability, at the evening box office. The fights will also be broadcast via pay-per-view livestream on the Swiss Pro Boxing website.
