The official weigh-in before the boxing event at Bern’s Stadttheater caused a stir: while Mouafo, Fanga, and Kqira were ready for their fights, Mexican fighter Edgar Vargas derailed Angelo Peña’s scheduled bout by coming in massively overweight.

Everything was set for a big boxing night at Bern’s Stadttheater. Angelo Peña was scheduled to take another step forward in front of his home crowd on Good Friday. However, at the official weigh-in at Hotel Bern, disappointment struck: Peña’s Mexican opponent, Edgar Vargas, weighed in at 68.0 kilograms, roughly 8.5 kg over the contracted limit of 59.5 kg. The Swiss Boxing Federation subsequently refused to approve the fight.
“In seven years as a boxing promoter, I’ve never witnessed such unprofessional behavior. Especially for Angelo, who invested so much in preparation, this is extremely disappointing,” said organizer Leander Strupler. Nevertheless, Swiss Pro Boxing is looking ahead: “Tomorrow, we will deliver a spectacular event—even without Angelo—and will arrange a new fight for him as soon as possible.”
Championship Fight for the Swiss Title
Confident and within weight limits, Christopher Mouafo (62.6 kg) and Bryan Fanga (63.2 kg) will face off in the main event for the Swiss Super Lightweight Championship. The ten-round bout promises an intense and technically high-level fight.
Excitement in the Undercard
Alfred “El Chapo” Kqira (66.6 kg) and Dutch champion Steve Suppan (66.5 kg) also impressed at the weigh-in, setting up another highlight of the evening. Additionally, Colombia-born, Switzerland-based Laura Wollenman (50.6 kg) will meet Mexican fighter Brenda Vazquez (50.6 kg) in the ring. The undercard features four amateur bouts, giving young talents the chance to shine in front of a large audience.
