At the end of February, Angelo Peña had a special opportunity: the undefeated super-featherweight from Bern was invited to a training camp in London by Matchroom Boxing, Europe’s leading boxing promotion. The purpose of the stay was to serve as a sparring partner for Welsh world champion Joe Cordina, who was preparing at the Matchroom Gym in Essex for his IBF title defense against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov.

Accompanied by his manager Leander Strupler, Peña underwent several days of intensive training under the guidance of star coach Tony Sims. The Matchroom Gym, located in an industrial area in East London, is regarded as one of the most prestigious training centers in European professional boxing. Peña trained alongside well-known athletes such as Conor Benn, George Liddard, and Felix Cash. In addition to high-level sparring with world champion Joe Cordina, Peña participated in other professional training sessions, including interval runs, technical drills, and pad work. The camp provided him not only with top-level sporting experience but also valuable insights into the training culture of Europe’s elite boxers.
