Gianni Passanante comes from a long-standing martial arts family: his father, Franco Passanante, was a multiple Swiss champion, a successful professional boxer, and the founder of the Passanante Boxing School in Chur – a name with weight in the Graubünden region. In 2024, Franco Passanante passed away far too early after a serious illness. For Gianni, this meant not only the loss of his father but also a great responsibility.
As a young man, he took over the family’s stone carving business together with his mother – specializing in tombstones and restorations – as well as the boxing school in Chur. Gianni is a trained stone carver and continues both family traditions: craftsmanship and boxing. Thanks to his professional structure, he can work part-time and dedicate the rest of the day to training.
Passanante has Italian roots on both sides and holds dual Swiss-Italian citizenship. As an amateur, he gained international experience, boxing in Switzerland, Italy, and spending time in the USA, where he trained and competed in several fights.
Outside the ring, Gianni is calm, polite, fashionable, and creative, expressing himself through stone carving and drawing. Known to friends and colleagues as social, courteous, and reflective, in the ring he fights for the legacy of his father.
For fans, this means: Gianni Passanante’s professional career is deeply rooted in the boxing tradition of Chur and the canton of Graubünden, supported by a strong regional fan base and a story that extends the sport far beyond the ring.
