The Bern Theatre is usually the stage for plays, operas, and ballet – but once a year, on Good Friday evening, Swiss Pro Boxing brings the sport of boxing to the opera house. At Boxen statt Theater 2025, five exciting matchups from both the amateur and professional ranks showcased just how emotional and thrilling boxing can be. The event was broadcast live on Blue Sport and Blick.ch.
In the main event of the evening, Bern’s Angelo Peña secured his twelfth victory in as many professional fights. His opponent, multiple European champion Karim Guerfi, was forced to retire after four rounds – Peña was simply too clear, too fast, too precise, and too dominant. With this win, Peña not only retained his WBO Intercontinental Super Featherweight title but also sent a strong signal toward the world stage. “I’m ready for anyone,” Peña declared in the ring, while his promoter Leander Strupler hinted at potential fights in the USA.
The 20-year-old talent from Lausanne, Félix Meier, also delivered an impressive, technically accomplished performance. Against the sturdy Italian Yaya Kone, Meier showed his class over six rounds and earned a well-deserved points victory. This marked Meier’s fourth win in as many professional fights under the guidance of trainer Alain Chervet.
The undercard offered thrilling bouts as well:
The combination of atmosphere and high-level sport made the evening at the theatre a true celebration for Swiss sports fans, with Peña and Meier starring in the spotlight.
